What you can expect

This 6-day Egyptian vacation takes you to the two great cities of Cairo and Alexandria. It features a three night stay in Alexandria and three nights in Cairo.

Your journey begins in Cairo, the Egyptian capital and largest city in the Middle East. You’ll head on a private tour to discover the city’s immense cultural and historical legacy. Travel back in time with a full-day trip to Giza, Memphis, and Sakkara. Start at Cheops Pyramid, also known as the Great Pyramid, which is the only remaining wonder of the ancient world. Gaze upon the mighty stones that for centuries constituted the largest structure in the world. Continue along to the nearby Great Sphinx, with its enigmatic face that mysteriously misses a nose, before reaching Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt. Close out your tour at magnificently-preserved Sakkara, where you’ll see the oldest pyramid in the nation, the step pyramid of King Zoser.

Connect to Alexandria on the coast, which offers a Mediterranean counterpoint to busy Cairo. A full day tour will explore some of the historical highlights of this city that used to be one of the greatest cities of antiquity. You’ll see Pompey’s Pillar, a red granite structure honouring the Emperor Diocletian that stands 27m tall. Continue to El Montazah Gardens, lavish 19th-century gardens that capture the verdant beauty of the city. Close out your tour at the Alexandria Library, a stunningly-designed modern building that resurrects the spirit of the ancient Great Library of Alexandria.

CAIRO

HALF DAY TOUR of PYRAMIDS and SPHINX:  Includes Camel ride and lunch.  The Pyramids were reckoned by the Greeks to be one of the Seven Wonders of the World. A single pyramid is built of 2,300,000 blocks, each weighing an average of two and one-half tons. In the face of such immensity, one cannot help but feel the wonder and awe that so many writers and artists have sought to convey over the centuries. The Cheops Pyramid is especially interesting since its interior burial chambers are open for inspection by the public. Not far from the Pyramids is the Great Sphinx of Giza, which dates from the time of Chephren (2620BC). Hewn from natural yellowish limestone and standing 65 feet high by 187 feet long, this unforgettable statue combines the head of a Pharaoh with a lion's body.

KHAN EL KHALILI BAZAAR:  is a famous bazaar and souq (or souk) in the historic center of Cairo, Egypt. Established as a center of trade in the Mamluk era and named for one of its several historic caravanserais, the bazaar district has since become one of Cairo's main attractions for tourists and Egyptians alike. It is also home to many Egyptian artisans and workshops involved in the production of traditional crafts and souvenirs.

EGYPTIAN MUSEUM:  The new museum is now OPEN! The most important depository of Egyptian antiquities anywhere in the world. It features artifacts from the Pharaonic and Graeco Roman periods, including the celebrated mummies of ancient Egypt's kings and King Tutankhamun's treasures. Entry to the mummy’s room is included when this optional tour is purchased.
